Les premières formes de vie terrestres, des procaryotes, seraient apparues durant cette période marquée par la survenue d'une pluie qui a duré plusieurs centaines de millions d'années. C'était il y a 3,8 milliards d'années. Ces cyanobactéries pratiquaient la photosynthèse, ce qui signifie qu'elles produisaient de l'oxygène. Elles auraient fortement contribué à la Grande Oxygénation, un événement survenu voici 2,3 milliards d'années (Protéorozoïque) durant lequel la concentration en dioxygène de l'atmosphère a brusquement augmenté, modifiant ainsi la composition de l'atmosphère et, en conséquence, l'environnement global de la planète.

ARCHAEAN, eon, the Life.

The first forms of terrestrial life, procaryotes, would have appeared during this period marked by the occurrence of a rain that lasted several hundreds of millions of years. That was 3.8 billion years ago. These cyanobacteria were photosynthesizing, which means they were producing oxygen. They would have contributed significantly to Great Oxygen, an event that occurred 2.3 billion years ago (Proteorozoic) during which the concentration of dioxigen in the atmosphere suddenly increased, thus altering the composition of the atmosphere and, consequently, the global environment of the planet.
